Pre and Post Natal Physiotherapy West End Brisbane

Women’s Health Physiotherapy

Your body tells a story – and sometimes, it needs a little extra support. Women’s health physiotherapy is here to help you move with confidence, manage changes, and feel more at home in your own body. Whether you’re navigating pregnancy, recovering after birth, or managing pelvic health concerns, our team is here with expertise, compassion and care.

How Women’s Health Physio Can Help

Women’s health physio is about more than just exercises – it’s about understanding your body and giving you practical tools to improve comfort, strength and function. Some of the areas we can support include:

  • Pregnancy care – easing lower back or pelvic pain, preparing your body for birth, and guiding safe exercise.

  • Postnatal recovery – restoring core and pelvic floor strength, supporting C-section or perineal healing, and managing aches from feeding or lifting.

  • Pelvic health – treatment for incontinence, prolapse, pelvic pain, or bladder and bowel concerns.

  • Exercise guidance – safe, tailored movement plans to support every stage of life.

What to expect in a Women’s Health Consult

  • Your first session is all about understanding you. We’ll start with a relaxed, private chat to get a clear picture of your concerns. We’ll ask about your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, bladder and bowel habits, and your goals, so we can tailor your care from the very beginning. Your initial appointment will usually take around 60 minutes. Depending on how much there is to get through on your first session, the assessment may be completed on this day, or during your second appointment.

  • From there, your physio will gently assess how your body moves and how it affects your pelvic health. This might include looking:

    • Posture

    • Breathing

    • Core control

    • Assessments of your body as a whole, and around the pelvic area

If appropriate, we may offer an internal pelvic floor examination. This helps us understand how your pelvic floor muscles are working- how they activate, relax, and coordinate with the rest of your body. It allows us to assess your pelvic organ position, the health of your tissues, and locate any areas of discomfort.

This is only done with your full consent, and only if it’s relevant to your care. If that’s not something you’re comfortable with, that’s completely okay. You’re in control at every step, and your physiotherapist can discuss other assessment options if preferred.

  • Once we’ve completed your assessment, we’ll work with you to create a treatment plan that’s completely tailored to your body, your goals and your lifestyle. This might include:

    • Education to help you better understand your symptoms

    • A personalised exercise program that could focus on both general movement and specific pelvic floor retraining

    • Internal manual therapy (such as soft tissue or trigger point release of pelvic floor muscles)

    • Musculoskeletal techniques like massage or joint mobilisation.

    • A safe return-to-exercise screening if you’re post-natal, or post-surgery

Pelvic health is deeply personal, but you never have to go through it alone. We’re here to support you with the right care, at the right time, every step of the way.
